PULSAR® LIFE -
NOW AVAILABLE!

PULSAR LIFE

PULSAR® LIFE

Here at PULSAR® sustainability is our priority and we have changed the way in which we not only work, but design protective clothing. With the safety of both the wearer and environment in mind, we have made it our responsibility to protect both because we believe that the only future is a sustainable future. Actioning a road map towards our ambitious goals and aligning with as many Sustainable Development Goals as possible, PULSAR have taken a whole new direction with a strong influence to #begreenbeseen in all areas of the business. We are committed to evolving by working closely with our partners at Positive Planet on carbon capture projects. Looking for opportunities to learn and collaborate with leaders like Textiles 2030 to bring positive change and drive sustainable innovation.

This year sees the launch of PULSAR® 's first environmentally responsible collection called PULSAR® Life. We have taken a circular approach from the beginning and emphasis on R&D to select the most responsible solutions currently available and make considered choices. Selected sustainable fibres and switched out virgin polyester for recycled polyester (RPET). Working with branded partners like THERMOLITE® and by using BCI (better cotton initiative) and GRS (global recycled standard) certified materials we have ensured traceability. During development we carried out wearer trials to better understand performance requirements and investigated garment construction methods to ensure that we create the most durable garments possible and extend the life of the garment further.

The range features styles in both a mens and womens specific fit.

GLOBAL RECYCLED STANDARD(GRS)

The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) verifies the percentage of recycled content and tracks it from the source to the final product.

Products certified to the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) contain recycled content that has been (independently) verified at each stage of the supply chain, from the source to the final product. In addition, facilities from the source to final supplier have met social, environmental, and chemical requirements.

The purchase of Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certified products demonstrates demand for recycled content and best processing practices in the supply chain. (TE-301-V1.3-2023.06.01, Appendix D).

PULSAR is Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certified, Control Union Certifications, CB-CUC- 1224147. Only the products which are covered by a valid transaction
certificate are Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certified.

RAW MATRIALS

PRE-CONSUMER WASTE

Pre-consumer waste refers to materials that are sent through recycling before they are used by consumers or commercialized. They are materials that are diverted from the waste stream during manufacturing. For example, when the manufacturer produces a bottle, during the production of the bottle they may have some waste remain. Then the factory will collect the waste directly, and then use a specific process to make the waste into recycled materials.

Alternatively, when the manufacture produces a garment, during the cutting and production, the factory will collect fabric cuttings from the factory floor.

POST-CONSUMER WASTE

Post-consumer waste is any material that's recycled after its commercialization or use, it means the materials have been used by the customer. For example, we buy a bottle of water, we dispose of the empty bottle and someone will collect the bottles and pass to the factory recycling facility. Then the factory will use a specific process and make them into a new recycled material.

Alternatively, used textiles are collected and a recycling facility shreds the textiles and uses a specific process (mechanic or chemical) and make them into a new recycled material.

WATERPROOFS

EVOLUTION COLLECTION

Garments

A number of years ago, PULSAR® introduced the PULSAR® Evolution collection to the market. We did this to offer a high quality, increased comfort and lighter weight set of waterproof garments - the ultimate performance in high visibility clothing.

3-Layer Laminate Fabric Technology

The fabric we use in every garment throughout the Evolution collection is made up of 3 different layers: an outer polyester layer, a breathable and waterproof layer and an inner protective backing - thus making up the 3 layers.

All 3 layers are bonded and work together to protect you against poor weather conditions, keeping you visible, dry, comfortable and protected from the elements. The outer layer is designed to keep you visible in poor light conditions, the middle layer keeps the water out whilst allowing perspiration to pass through and the inner protective backing protects the middle layer from getting damaged.

Breathe Easy

The PULSAR® EvoTECH fabric scored 14.6 RET so sits firmly in the highly breathable bracket. All these things added together gives you a collection of high visibility clothing that performs above and beyond the industry requirements for breathability, water resistance, durability and comfort.

PROTECT COLLECTION

Garments

Some of the most dangerous working conditions to work in can be the famous British weathers in the wet and cold. This means that workers need to trust the garments that they are wearing will keep them protected, visible and comfortable throughout the winter months.

With our full protect collection of waterproof garments, wearers can go about their daily tasks with full confidence in the protective clothing they're wearing.

Within the PULSAR® protect collection of waterproofs, PU coating is used throughout. PU coating is a protective film made of polyurethane, which when used in liquid form, can be transferred into a waterproof and breathable treatment. The coating also makes fabrics more resistant to tears and abrasion. Within our protect waterproof collection, PU coating is used throughout with optimum waterproof and breathable performance.

WATERPROOF & BREATHABILITY
Waterproof Graph

Breathability capabilities in a garment allows body moisture and vapours to be released, it is the degree to which a fabric permits air or moisture to pass through. Breathability is important as it prevents the wearer from overheating and feeling discomfort.

Breathability is measured in RET (Resistance of Evaporation of a Textile). The less resistance, the more breathable and the higher resistance, the less breathable. RET is measured on a numerical scale a score of 0-40 being highly breathable (Class 4), 15 under is breathable (Class 2) and between 25-15 being non breathable (Class 1) 40 and under.

KEY WORDS

TEAR RESISTANCE - Tear Resistant is the measurement of a samples ability to resist tearing

TENSILE STRENGTH - Tensile strength is the maximum load that a material can support without fracture when being stretched, divided by the original cross-sectional area of the material. Generally the more layers the fabric has, the less stretchy it becomes

WARP - Lengthwise yarns are called warp, these threads are held stationary

WEFT - Crosswise yarns are called weft, they are threaded over and under the warp threads

WHAT IS TEFLON ECOELITE™?

Teflon EcoLite

Teflon EcoElite™ finish is up to three times more durable than other non-fluorinated, water-repellent finished. Because many of its ingredients can be regrown and replaced over time it's production leaves a smaller environmental footprint.

The number of consumers and apparel brands seeking environmentally friendly products rises each year. That's why Chemours developed Teflon EcoElite™ finish - the first renewably sourced, plant-based, non-fluoriated durable water and water-based stain repellency finish.

The technology behind Teflon EcoElite™ repellent doesn't sacrifice quality. Many demanding applications rely on its dependable performance. A market leader, Teflon EcoElite™ finish continues to repel water and water-based stains for 30 or more washes, unlike non-fluorinated finishes.

A composition of 60% renewably sourced raw materials (ASTM D-6866-12)

The chemistry for Teflon EcoElite™ renewably sourced finish (Zelan™ R3) is bluesign approved

OUR PROMISE

Garments
Ladies

Our Ladies collection offers a premium, high quality selection of hi visibility clothing, tailored specifically to Ladies sizes. Ranging from Storm Coats, Soft Shell Jackets, Polo Shirts, Combat Trousers and Thermals. As with the rest of our high performance apparel, we do not want to stand still with the garments we offer to women. With plans in place to further extend the collection with a fully sustainable clothing collection.

For far too long, women across multiple industries and sectors - whether that be rail, construction, utilities etc - have been forced to settle for men's protective clothing. This has left women with clothes that are uncomfortable due to not fitting problem, which leaves the wearer at risk to potential hazards due to safety factors being diminished. The PULSAR® Ladies collection is helping change happen.

ELECTRIC ARC

WHAT IS AN ARC FLASH?

Arc Flash
Arc Flash

ATPV VS ELIM

Fabric

An ARC Thermal Value (ATPV) refers to the maximum incident energy (in calories per centimetre squared) that protective equipment can be exposes to and prevent to onsent of a second-degree burns where there is a 50% probability.

An Energy Limit Value (ELIM) is the point at which the clothing gives a 0% probability of enough energy getting through the garment to cause a second-degree burn. It is the new cal/cm2 measurement.

Ratings are based upon the total weight of the fabric and ratings can be stacked when using  a layered system. A higher rating means better protection. To summarise both ELIM and ATPV are properties used to determine the effectiveness of ARC Flash clothing.

PROTAL®

Working closely with Protal® and other partners, PULSAR® have been able to create highly innovative collection of FR & Electric ARC clothing. Protal® is a new super high-performance Protex fibre blend, supplied by Waxman fibres, ultimately giving the wearer a consistency of compliance not available with many other FR fabrics. VILOFT®

Viloft Logo

COMOFRT IS VILOFT®

After almost 100 years of production of round cellulosic fibres, 1985 saw the creation of VIOLFT® - the world's first flat viscose fibre. The flat cross section delivers flexibility in the fibres and increases their surface area. When spun into a yarn, VIOLFT® fibres align in a random pattern and form hollow spaces filled with air.

The flat structure in combination with the hollow spaces in the yarn lends fabrics containing VIOLFT® extraordinary properties. They have a soft dry touch, excellent moisture management and high breathability. This makes VIOLFT® the ideal choice for adding functional comfort to apparel.
